ASPEN FILM ISIS THEATRE

After 45 years of bringing cinema, dialogue, and community engagement to the Roaring Fork Valley through Aspen Filmfest, Aspen Academy Screenings, Aspen Shortsfest, Indie Showcases, FilmEducates, and partnerships with other organizations, Aspen Film has solidified a permanent home for our programming. In October 2022, Aspen Film exercised an option to acquire this iconic property and has engaged Bow Tie Management, a professional commercial movie theater operations company, to handle theater operations.

Aspen Film, in conjunction with Bow Tie Management, are thrilled to continue the tradition of showing movies in downtown Aspen. As we forge ahead, we are committed to bringing you an exciting mix of first-run releases, independent films, and other thought-provoking programming.

FAQ

Where does the name Isis Theatre come from?

In 1912, The Webber Building in downtown Aspen was converted into a movie house by the Aspen Women’s Civic Improvement League. They showed silent films, held minstrel shows and nicknamed the space the Isis Theatre in deference to the goddess Isis.

Isis was the Egyptian Goddess of Magic. She was originally associated with the throne of Egypt, which contained magical power because it could turn a prince into a king. Later, Isis “absorbed the attributes of most other goddesses and some gods and became a supreme deity, famous for her curing and redemptive powers” (Lesko, 155)
