Crime, Documentary, Drama | 111 MIN

Aspen Film is proud to partner once again with the USC Shoah Foundation, under their Stronger Than Hate banner to present
two FREE one-of-a-kind evenings in Aspen August 23 & 24.

Triggered by the deadly white nationalist rally of August 2017 in Charlottesville, Virginia, USC Shoah Foundation launched Stronger Than Hate, an initiative that draws on the power of eyewitness testimony to help students and the general public recognize and counter antisemitism, racism, xenophobia, and other forms of hatred.

Monday, August 23 at 7 PM
Isis Theatre (406 E. Hopkins Avenue, Aspen)

MY NAME IS SARA tells the true life story of Sara Goralnik, a 13-year-old Polish Jew whose entire family was killed by Nazis in September 1942. After a grueling escape to the Ukrainian countryside, Sara steals her Christian best friend’s identity and finds refuge in a small village, where she is taken in by a farmer and his young wife. She soon discovers the dark secrets of her employers’ marriage, compounding her own greatest secret that she must strive to protect, her true identity.

A panel will follow featuring Executive Producers and USC Shoah Foundation Executive Committee Members, Mickey Shapiro, whose mother Sara’s testimony is part of USC Shoah Foundation’s Visual History Archive and whose story is the inspiration for the film, and Executive Producer and USC Shoah Foundation Board Member Andy Intrater, alongside the film’s Producer/Director, Steven Oritt. The discussion will be moderated by the film’s Co-Producer and USC Shoah Foundation Finci-Viterbi Executive Director, Dr. Stephen D. Smith.

FINAL ACCOUNT

DOCUMENTARY  |  90 MIN

Tuesday, August 24 at 7 PM
Isis Theatre (406 E. Hopkins Avenue, Aspen)

Everyone knew, but no one said anything.

FINAL ACCOUNT is an urgent portrait of the last living generation of everyday people to participate in Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich. Over a decade in the making, the film raises vital, timely questions about authority, conformity, complicity and perpetration, national identity, and responsibility, as men and women ranging from former SS members to civilians in never-before-seen interviews reckon with – in very different ways – their memories, perceptions and personal appraisals of their own roles in the greatest human crimes in history.

There will be a Q&A to follow the screening with USC Shoah Foundation Finci-Viterbi Executive Director Dr. Stephen D. Smith.

Due to the recent uptick of cases of the delta variant in our community, Aspen Film has updated our COVID-19 protocols for this and all Filmfest events. To gain entry into any Aspen Film event or screening, all attendees, staff and volunteers will be required to show a photo id, along with either: Proof of being fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to the event OR Proof of a negative COVID test result received no more than 72 hours in advance of the event.
