Filmfest: NUISANCE BEAR
About the Film
Documentary | 90 MIN | US, Canada, UK
NUISANCE BEAR follows polar bears into Churchill, Manitoba, where man-made climate change is bringing an ancient migration route into increasingly uneasy contact with human life. Filmmaking duo and Aspen Shortfest alums Gabriela Osio Vanden and Jack Weisman explore a complicated ecosystem of wildlife officers, tourists, and Inuit communities, each with a different stake in the bears’ survival. Visually breathtaking and quietly provocative, the film asks a deceptively simple question: “Who, exactly, is the nuisance—and who is encroaching on whom?”
