Executive Director’s Letter: Nov 2022

Hello Friends of Film,

Aspen has experienced its first big snowfall and it’s amazing how quickly 2022 has flown by. We’re prepping now for our upcoming Academy Screenings (https://aspenfilm.org/festival/academy-screenings-2022/) which runs from December 19-23. We hope to welcome you to some of the most exciting films anticipated for the end of the year and the 2023 awards season.

We are delighted to now call the Isis Theatre our own! As of October 14, Aspen Film is officially the owner of the four-screen movie theater, and has partnered with Bow Tie Management to run the theater day-to-day. Hopefully you’ll notice some of the subtle changes including making beer, wine, and cocktails available at the concession stand; offering matinees every day, with extra matinees on weekends and holiday periods, and Aspen Film Members having access to advance ticketing online for program events including Indie showcases, as well as access to discounted ticket prices for most Bowtie films.

System upgrades are currently taking place, in anticipation of the Isis once again presenting the Metropolitan Opera, National Theatre Live and Exhibition on Screen, as well as concert presentations and sporting events. More details on these special events will be announced shortly. In the meantime, programming will continue to diversify – Aspen Film will curate specific series and event films, while Bow Tie will continue to feature the finest in first-run commercial and independent film. Private theater rental is available for parties and special events by contacting the theater directly.

In the meantime, we have some great November offerings which you don’t want to miss:

SHE SAID

Our next Indie Showcase will take place Wednesday, November 9. We’re delighted to offer a sneak screening of Maria Schrader’s SHE SAID, in advance of its release later this month. The film is particularly timely with the Harvey Weinstein trial happening simultaneously.
