Executive Director’s Letter: Sept 2022

Hello Friends of Film,

What an exciting and event-filled summer we had!

We’re looking forward to the fall, which means Filmfest is coming! But before we tell you about our impressive-as-ever and prestigious lineup, we want to let you know about some other September events you definitely don’t want to miss, and which will whet your visual appetite for Filmfest.

THREE MINUTES: A LENGTHENING

Our next Indie Showcase is happening on Wednesday, September 7. Aspen Film in conjunction with the JCC of Aspen presents the extraordinary documentary THREE MINUTES: A LENGTHENING which boasts debuts at the Venice, Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals in 2021, then went on to play Sundance in 2022.

“Rare home movie footage shot in Poland in 1938 becomes a priceless historical artifact, documenting people and places obliterated by the Holocaust in Dutch writer-director Bianca Stigter’s haunting and provocative documentary essay “THREE MINUTES – A LENGTHENING.” – Alissa Simon, Variety

“In THREE MINUTES – A LENGTHENING, Bianca Stigter turns a few minutes of amateurish film Kurtz shot on his trip — no more than an American tourist’s souvenir of a vacation — into an eloquent meditation on loss, memory and how film can shape them.” – Caryn James, The Hollywood Reporter

MOONAGE DAYDREAM

Next up on Thursday, September 15, and we’re so excited about this because it’s truly one of the coolest film events Aspen Film has presented, is the US debut of David Bowie’s MOONAGE DAYDREAM directed by Brett Morgen (KURT COBAIN: MONTAGE OF HECK), which will be coming off of its Cannes and Toronto Film Festival premieres!

I was so excited when this film was announced so I made it a priority to attend the World Premiere midnight screening in Cannes. To say that I was just blown away by the timeliness, depth, visual + aural sensation of the experience is an understatement.

There will be a post screening conversation between Aspen’s own Bill Gerber, executive producer on the film, and former Warner Bros. president, and me.

Tickets are on sale now and we expect this to be a sellout event, so get yours now!

Costumes are encouraged…
