Film: Aspen screenings offer ideal catch-up

By John Wenzel, The Denver Post

Tuesday-Jan. 2. Aspen Film’s annual Academy Screenings started as way for members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to see the latest prestige films before voting on the Oscars. Despite the fact that online and DVD screeners have become the norm, the screenings (now in their 24th year) have become a public ritual. This year’s roster includes all the likeliest nominees in one place, including “Spotlight,” “Anomalisa,” “Carol,” “The Revenant,” “The Danish Girl,” “Youth,” “Sicario” and “Suffragette.” Various times Dec. 22-Jan. 2 at Harris Concert HallĀ at Aspen Music Festival & School, 960 N. Third in Aspen. Tickets: $20. aspenfilm.org.
